By The End Of 2023, The EV Market In California Will Be Larger Than The Car Markets of 41 States

The California EV Market is already larger than the entire auto markets of 38 different states. During the first nine months of 2023:

  • 336,148 EVs have been purchased in California

  • 291,518 fully electric vehicles (EVs) and 44,630 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs)

The 336,148 Electric Vehicles purchased in California so far in 2023 is more than the total number of cars purchased in Arizona, the 13th largest car buying state, during All of 2022.
  • #12 Oklahoma: 383,299 new cars purchased during 2022

  • California: 336,148 EVs + PHEVs purchased during first nine months of 2023

  • #13 Arizona: 328,542 Cars purchased during 2022

By the end of 2023, the number of EVs purchased in California will likely surpass the total number of cars purchased in Georgia, the 10th largest car market in the US.


California's EV market is far ahead of the rest of the country, and points to a harbinger of what's to come, as other states follow California's technology lead.
